Over the years, Zach and I have been able to develop good habits out of our daily meal routines and nutrition. Zach really enjoys cooking, and we always love to try new recipes. That being said, maintaining good nutrition requires some consistency, so we try to stick to the basics most of the time. We have a set list of groceries we purchase each week, and that automatically helps us stay on track with what we eat. I will lay out our typical shopping list, and then dive into some ideas for meal prepping / under 30-minute meals you can use daily.
This is the most important part of staying consistent with nutrition. Buying the right food to fill your home with healthy ingredients is the first step for building long term eating habits. A few rules of thumb before we dive into our grocery list:
We start our day with water and Athletic Greens. After that, it’s coffee and a protein packed breakfast. Below are some ideas that we usually have a few times a week:
The middle of the day is our least scheduled time block. Lunches and dinners often run together, and we end up eating at all times of the afternoon / evening. Baby’s naps and our plans vary, so this means it’s important for us to have some ready-to-go meals. We always have pre-cooked rice, pasta, or potatoes in our fridge, along with some sort of protein that we meal prep for the week. Large batches of grilled chicken, salmon in the oven, or ground meat seasoned for taco bowls are some of our favorites. Below are a couple of our favorite lunch/dinner options:
